25-02-25: "Everything changes, but beauty remains"
There was a store called Momo in Dixon Street Sussex Centre. This little shop sold adorable, well-made cotton items, all of which featured their cat mascots. The place was stuffed with cat aprons, cat wallets, cat pencil cases, cat pillows, etc. Momo, alongside many other cute/kawaii shops around Sydney gradually shut down during the mid 2010s. There are still some cute stores, though their items are bad quality and they are not worth visiting. I would like to fly to Japan, where Momo shops still exist. I would like airships to fly me all over the world.
The album is made entirely of samples - jazz fusion, chill-out, and indie-folk songs are used. The emotional tones vary from sentimental, to melancholy, then hopeful.
A pencil case on my desk is embroidered with a quote: "Everything changes, but beauty remains". The kawaii aesthetic may not be for everyone but you'll find a quote on a cute pencil case will say what it means without hiding behind irony. That pencil case and the Momo items I still cherish are made to be charming, earnest and comforting. I tried to replicate this feeling in Airships.
If there's something you've lost, if you catch yourself daydreaming of far away places, or if you're nostalgic like me, this album might speak to you. Maybe this feeling is too specific to my inner world (or maybe this album is too badly mastered) - I dont know. If you do listen, I hope it reminds you of a pleasant and cute past.
